you thinkin' Vintage ?!

when you think of vintage styles you think COLORS ! 80s ! FUNKY !
well youre not wrong but theres much more to it than just these things.
you want to think about the "actual" clothes being presented !

i couldnt walk around with ty-die boot-cut jeans and call it vintage cause it has a bunch of colors !
you have to think about WHAT was worn and in some cases HOW depending on what youre
trying to present here ?!

lets go back to what i said about a vintage look in the beginning and step away from those things..
ill start with a couple of name brands:
- Champion
- Starter
- Adidas
- Nike
- Russel
- Etc.

"Back in the Day" as we say now.. they wore Champion "NBA" jerseys.

rappers put Satin Starter jackets on the map but not just NBA but all sorts of leagues.

if you havent noticed, lets give it up to RUN DMC for putting Adidas "shell-toes" on blast back then but
not only the shoes.. theyd bust out Jump suits to mini Track shorts ! thats what they called dope !

even NIKE. again with the whole sports gear movement. i wont even bother talking about the sneakers but from tshirts to sweatshirts to mini track shorts as well.. thats vintage =]

now days we say forget it.. *throw on a white tee.
rewind a few decades back and.. Russell jumps in place ! but these arent graphic designed tees, theyre basic shirts to keep you comfy and are more popular in the athletic department.

THEN we have this New Era Fitted cap going on.. First you find your size, then pay your 30 to 80 to hundred or so bucks ! lets take it old-skool and you have your very own Snapback cap by the G-Cap !
i favor the NBA series but they come in all sorts of leagues, even for COLLEGE ! when i started wearing mine in 2008, id pay a good 7 to 13 bucks online cause they were so un-popular and nobody cared to wear them. (ofcourse theyve made a comeback in 2010)

summer comes around and glasses/shades break out !
our most popular styles:
- Aviators in which now they call them "Police" shades lol
- Wayfares - including a mixture of colors  =]
- Knock-Offs ! lol - not everyone had the money but sure did have the look. (kinda like now days)
except back THEN, they took pride in it even if it was a knock-off.. why lie ?!
as you all can see, when i think vintage.. im a fan of the sporty look !
but ill play fair for those who care to dress a little different..

look into:
- western shirts
- flannel button ups *i like
- disco shirts believe it or not
- wool shirts *i like

bottoms ?!
- levi 501 *i like
- camo army pants
- nerdy plaid plants

and for the fall and the winter..
- leather jackets *i like
- motorcycle jackets *i like
- pea coats *i like
- nylon jackets *i like
- letterman jackets *i like
- military jackets

but everybody wait a second.. cause my selfish self didnt give any of the ladies any love ?!?!
so drop that beat world .. boom boom tap boom boom boom boom tap ! lol

chicks would def wanna look into:
- leather jackets
- beaded sweatshirts
- printed vests

ofcourse even now days chicks wear skirts.. blouses.. and dresses.
but we forgot about the infamous ROMPER and JUMPER haha lol
they did their thing back then and slowly crashing the scene again with a vengeance !

and for the hot summer days when even ice couldnt freeze.. take a look at denim shorts !
unless you were reckless and went butterball... lol yeahh so with the DENIM SHORTS !

accesories ?
- silk scarves
- elastic belts
- leather belts
- purses/hand bags

look on down and and we see why you compliment so much.
we have.. the boots ! the heels ! yall keep doing yall thing ladies =]

id also like to throw in, yall are doing a great job at bringing it back !

okay so back then they were ALWAYS dressed girly of dressed boyish..
they gave eachother a shot at sharing styles !
this is called UNISEX !

check out:
- graphic tees *i like
- graphic tanks *i like
- sweatshirts *i like
- silk jackets
- DENIM jackets *i like
- "Cowichan" sweaters *i like
then last but not least.. the rich man Suited look !

THIS ladies and gents.. is VINTAGE wear so do your studying and open your mind up ! =]

how do you incorporate sneakers into your look ?

coming from a sneakerhead who always gets stuck in this dilemma.
classic shoe; nike vandal: simple high top with a basic colorway. youre looking at a t-shirt, hoodless windbreaker, and straight legs. obviously he wasnt aiming for a casual look. this is more of a sporty, funky look where everything was basic. despite the graphics, he made sure you noticed every little bit of his outfit. unzipped jacket x tucked jeans behind the tongue.

classic shoe; nike air force one: low top whites with a silver swoosh. another simple look. for this guy to wear shorts, theres no question he put thought into what he had on his feet. whatever he had going on up top, he made sure it wasnt too too much. now of course theres no way around the kicks so.. he balanced it out. not too much, or too little. a simple white shoe with the accent of silver to attract a little more attention than a plain all white shoe would have.

i know this isnt the best view but i love this picture and unfortunately i dont even know the shoe. but this right here is maybe one of the most simplest but most pleasant and comfortable ways to incorporate your kicks into an outfit. sleeveless t-shirt, skinny jeans, and high top sneaks. simple as that. you could even add a hat and some shades to this look. but our main focus is the t-shirt x kicks. leave the jeans be as long as his t-shirt went with his kicks. and on second thought, wearing a matching hat may be doing too much so if you do use this concept, throw them off a little =] not wayyy off but just enough to attract some attention. that is what you wanna do when you wear a piece correct ?!

so we have it.. when you wear "sneakers" you want people to notice what you have on. whether its jeans tucked behind tongue, rolled up shorts, or skinny jeans where you "cant" cover up the shoe. also, when youre aiming to attract attention to your shoes, you dont want to do too much with your outfit because then youll take away from the shoe. so its cool that you want to look fresh and clean by matching but its not always about matching. its about how you present an item to the table.
